Manipulation of Magnetic Domain Walls by Ferroelectric Switching: Dynamic Magnetoelectricity at the Nanoscale

چکیده

Controlling magnetism using voltage is highly desired for applications, but remains challenging due to fundamental contradiction between polarity and magnetism. Here we propose a mechanism manipulate magnetic domain walls in ferrimagnetic or ferromagnetic multiferroics electric field. Different from those studies based on static domain-level couplings, here the magnetoelectric coupling relies collaborative spin dynamics around walls. Accompanying reversal of chirality driven by polarization switching, "rolling-downhill"-like motion wall achieved at nanoscale, which tunes magnetization locally. Our opens an alternative route pursuit practical fast converse functions via dynamics.

Efficient photovoltaic current generation at ferroelectric domain walls.

We elucidate the mechanism of a newly observed photovoltaic effect which occurs in ferroelectrics with periodic domain structures. Under sufficiently strong illumination, domain walls function as nanoscale generators of the photovoltaic current. The steps in the electrostatic potential function to accumulate electrons and holes on opposite sides of the walls while locally reducing the concentra...

Domain dynamics during ferroelectric switching.

The utility of ferroelectric materials stems from the ability to nucleate and move polarized domains using an electric field. To understand the mechanisms of polarization switching, structural characterization at the nanoscale is required. We used aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy to follow the kinetics and dynamics of ferroelectric switching at millisecond temporal and suba...

Non-Kolmogorov-Avrami-Ishibashi switching dynamics in nanoscale ferroelectric capacitors.

Switching dynamics of nanoscale ferroelectric capacitors with a radius of 35 nm were investigated using piezoresponse force microscopy. Polarization switching starts with only one nucleation event occurring only at the predetermined places. The switching dynamics of nanoscale capacitors did not follow the classical Kolmogorov-Avrami-Ishibashi model. On the basis of the consideration of two sepa...
